I know many of you have been trying to get into the Ed Tech Zoom Room lately and found it closed, so I’m here to tell you it’s okay. We’re still here. The thing is, now that we have Zoom phones, you can still meet with us anytime you want – all you have to do is call the department phone. From Zoom, dial 3842 OR type EdTech in the Search box. If we can’t answer your question on the phone, or you just want to see us, we can convert the call to a meeting anytime.

On the other hand, if you KNOW we need to see your screen, or see your face, you can invite any of us directly to a meeting. You can find us by typing in our name in the Zoom search bar and hovering over the contact. Then, select the phone or camera icon.

You can also find some more detailed instructions on this page.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Tip! Zoom Recording Cleanup https://blogs.jccc.edu/2021/04/14/tip-zoom-recording-cleanup/ Wed, 14 Apr 2021 13:13:39 +0000 http://blogs.jccc.edu/?p=4752 Zoom Cloud recordings older than 180 days old will be flagged for deletion.  If you have received a email you will need to identify a new location for this recording.

We have purchased YuJa for our long-term video repository that in addition to collecting recordings has the ability to add captions, provide analytics and integrate with Canvas.   There are settings in YuJa to automatically copy your new Zoom Cloud recordings to YuJa.  Contact the Ed Tech Center for more information.

You will find below links to turn off automatic recording in Zoom and work on cleanup and migration of Zoom recordings to YuJa.

The Educational Technology Center and Technical Support Center can help provide assistance with any questions you may have.

Tip! Zoom Auto Captioning https://blogs.jccc.edu/2021/04/06/tip-zoom-auto-captioning/ Tue, 06 Apr 2021 19:16:39 +0000 http://blogs.jccc.edu/?p=4751 Zoom now has automatic Live Transcription (closed captioning) available in English. Once enabled, this automatically adds text to the bottom of the video with what the host and others are saying. You are required to enable the Closed Captions – Live Transcription on the meeting level in order for the closed captions to be available to your participants. This article will review how to enable the automatic live transcription (closed captioning) settings and how to leverage them within a meeting.

Following these steps will activate the feature for all future meetings or webinars created in account.

  1. Log into JCCC’s Zoom website  https://jccc.zoom.us
  2. Click Settings from the left side menu
  3. Click In Meeting (Advanced) or scroll down to that section of the settings.
  4. Turn on Closed captioning (the slider will move to the right and become blue)
  5. Under that option check the box that says Enable live transcription service to show transcript on the side panel in-meeting. If you do not see this option then your account does not yet have this feature activated. It will be rolling out to all users in the coming weeks.
  6. Click Save to confirm that setting

Starting the Live Automatic Transcriptions During a Meeting or Webinar

Note: Only the host can turn auto transcriptions on or off.

  1. Click the Live Transcript button from the Zoom control bar
  2. At the bottom of this window click Enable Auto-Transcription
  3. The meeting host will immediately see the transcripts at the bottom of the Zoom meeting video.
  4. A new set of options will be available for host and attendees by clicking the small arrow on the Live Transcript button to select how they wish to view the transcriptions/subtitles.

5. These new settings are:

  • Show Subtitle
    • The transcript will appear as video subtitles at the bottom of the video frame.
  • View Full Transcript
    • The transcript will appear in a side-panel Transcript window, and the full transcript to that point may be saved by clicking Save Transcript. Host and attendees can also search the transcript by entering text into the Search transcript field at the top of the window.
  • Subtitle Settings
    • Participants can change the appearance of the subtitles

New Default Zoom Setting – Passwords to View Recordings https://blogs.jccc.edu/2020/04/14/new-default-zoom-setting-passwords-to-view-recordings/ Tue, 14 Apr 2020 13:19:58 +0000 http://blogs.jccc.edu/?p=4168 A new setting is now requiring special passwords for students to access Zoom recordings. You will need to provide the password to each recording somewhere for your students, in order for them to view those recordings.

Note: To set the default for any New Recordings look at the following:

If you do not want students to have to put in a password to access your recordings, you can do so by going into your Zoom settings and setting the ‘Require password to access shared cloud recordings’ to ‘Off’. You can access this setting at https://jccc.zoom.us/profile/setting?tab=recording

We have a new “How to” guide with more detail and screen shots.

How to: Control Password Protection by Default for Zoom Cloud Recordings

Note: To change existing recordings to no longer require a password look at the following:

  1. Look for Recordings tab on the left side of the screen.
  2. For each recording listed there will be a Share or More option on the right (click share)
  3. Change the password protect option to the off position.
  4. Close the window.

If you don’t know how to find the password that has already been put on a recording – you can find it in the ‘Share’ settings in your recordings list, as shown here:
